(WRCB) - Good Friday! Big changes are moving in today. We already have a number of WATCHES and WARNINGS in effect in expectation of wintry weather.
A strong cold front will push in clouds through the day as the high reaches about 61. Expect light rain showers this afternoon into this evening as well as increasing winds. As the kids are out trick-or-treating this evening, temps will be cooling into the 40s along with the light rain, and winds blowing from the NW at 10-20 mph.
As cold air continues to spill in overnight, we will see some of the light rain transitioning into light snow in the mountains. For our area, models are showing possibly a little more than 1" on the northern end of the Plateau as well as in the Blue Ridge below 2500'. If you are traveling into the Smokies this weekend, the snowfall amounts will be impressive. 1"-4" are possible at elevations below 2500'. 4"-8" from 2500'-5000'. Isolated spots in those higher elevations could get up to a foot!
As we roll into Saturday, get ready for a blustery day. Temps are going to be in the 30s and 40s all day with winds blowing from 20-30 mph! Skies will be clear, but it will still be a biting, uncomfortable day.
Sunday will start out cold, in the 30s. Our high will get into the mid 50s with sunny skies.
Next week we will warm back into the upper 60s, and we could see more rainfall by Wednesday.
